#58 Kara Pidi Kozhukattai ( Uppu Urundai)

Welcome to 2020 !! Thanks a lot for all your support and encouragement. This is my first post of the year.

Uppu Urundai is an easy and healthy South Indian breakfast recipe. It is steamed rice ball flavored with Indian seasonings.

It can be served as a breakfast  or an evening snack.



Rice Flour  - 1 cup

Grated Coconut - 1/4 cup

Salt - for taste

Coconut oil - 1 tbsp

Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp

Broken Urad Daal( Ulundu) - 1 tsp

Red Chili -  3

Curry leaves - 1 spring

Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp


Take a Kadai, heat it and add 1 cup of rice flour and dry roast slightly.

Remove it from the kadai. Now add coconut oil in the kadai and add mustard seeds +broken urad dal+red chili+ curry leaves.

Cook it for 2 to 3 minutes.

Then add grated coconut and cook for 4 to 5 minutes.

Add 2 cups of water and add salt and boil it.

In that , add rice flour and mix it well.

Switch off the stove and let it cool.

Make small sized balls from the dough.

Now the steam the dough balls for 10 mins.

Yummy & Healthy uppu urundai / Kozhukattai is ready and  serve it hot.
