Aaloo Mutter is a simple North Indian curry prepared with Potatoes and fresh green Peas as a spicy onion tomato gravy.
There only few vegetarian dishes that you can prepare with fresh green peas during winter and I hope you don't miss this winter.
Indian cuisine has tons of dishes with potatoes and this one is one of a simple dish that can be tried by a beginner. You cannot go wrong on this dish 🙂
Aaloo Mutter goes well with Poori,Plain Rice,Parota,Roti or even with Jeera rice.
Ingredients:
Onion - 2 Medium sized
Tomato - 3 Medium sized
Green Chili - 2
Potatoes - 3 large/medium sized - cut into cubes
Green Peas - 1/2 cup
Cumin seeds - 2 tsp
Red Chili powder - 2 tsp
Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder - 2 tsp
Dry Mango powder - 1/2 tsp
Asofoetida - 1/2 tsp
Salt - as required
Oil - 3 tbsp
butter - 2 tbsp
Kasuri Methi - 1 tsp
Method:
Take a pressure cooker , add 2 tbsp of oil and heat the cooker.
Now add 2 tsp cumin seeds and after few seconds add chopped onion in medium flame.
Cook until onion turn golden brown. Add 1 tsp of ginger garlic paste and cook for a minute .
Then added 2 medium sized grated tomato puree / pulp. Cook for 3 minutes.
Now add 2 tsp red chili powder +1/2 tsp turmeric powder + 2 tsp coriander powder + 1/2 tsp dry mango powder.
Add 3 green chilies and mix well.
Also add in 1/4th tsp Asofoetida + salt to taste.
Mix well and cook until oil starts to separate.
Add 3 medium, washed & peeled and cut potatoes .
Now add 1 cup of green peas.
Add 1 cup water mix the contents well to get to gravy consistency .
Close the cooker & Pressure cook for 3 to 4 whistles.
Finally add some crushed Kasuri Methi for garnishing.
While serving add 2 tbsp of butter ( unsalted).
Aromatic, yummy Aaloo Mutter ready to serve!!
