#28 Raw Mango Sambar

Raw Mango Sambar is a traditional South Indian  dish. This Sambar is prepared using Mango ( without tamarind) and Toor Daal( Thuvaram paruppu).

Ingredients:

Raw Mango - 1 cup ( cut in pieces)

Toor Daal  ( Thuvaram Paruppu) - 1/2 cup.

Onion - 1 (Big Sized) - cut into pieces.

Tomato - 1 (Big Sized) - cut into pieces.

Curry Leaves

Turmeric powder - 1 tbsp

Red Chilli - 2 Nos.

Mustard Seeds - 1 tbsp

Fenugreek = 1/2 tsp

Urad Daal ( vellai ulundu ( udaichadhu)) - 1 tbsp

Asofoetida ( perungayam)-a pinch

Sambar powder - 4tbsp

water - 600 ml

oil - 1 tbsp

Salt ..to taste .

Method:

1.Cook the Toor Daal ( thuvaram paruppu) with turmeric powder+hinge+fenugreek +a drop of gingely oil.

2. Keep it aside after 4 whistles.

3.Take a pan and heat it with 1 tsbp of oil.

4.Add mustard seeds+Urad Daal(Ulundhu)+Red Chilli+Curry leaves.

5.After a round of fry, add onion and saute it well. Then add chopped tomato.

6. Saute the pan contents for 5 mins.

7.Add 1 cup of chopped raw mango to the pan

8.Now add turmeric powder +4tbsp of home made sambar powder and mix well.

9.Add salt to your taste.

10.After 3 minutes,add 600 ml of water. Mix the contents well.

11. Boil the Sambar for 10 to 15 minutes till the raw mango is cooked well.

12.Finally, add the boiled Toor Daal( Thuvaram paruppu) into the Sambar.

13. After a round of boiling,put the flame to low and mix well.

Raw Mango Sambar if ready to serve.  You can serve Raw Mango Sambar with white rice or idly.
